CrossFit Smyrna Success stories.

Tim Burger:
Several years ago when Crossfit Smyrna opened up, I would drive by and almost run off the road watching people do the craziest exercises in the parking lot of an industrial office park. Now, I am one of those nuts who almost causes an accident several days a week. My first workout was quite humbling to say the least. I could barely run 400m without stopping, and was nowhere near able to do a single pull up. In fact, I struggled with a few regular push up. I played College Lacrosse and always considered myself to be in good physical condition; until I entered the work force. I quickly went from a 165 lb fit 22 year old, to a 200 lb mess at 33.. I knew it was time for a change.

The first few months were brutal, but it all finally clicked and the hard work starting paying off. The gym held a Paleo Challenge that I was very skeptical of taking part in. I eventually convinced myself that I would try this lifestyle for 30 days and see what happens. 20+ lbs and 30 days later, I was the winner of the challenge. That was a great feeling, but the best feeling was my next physical in which my Dr. was blown away by the changes. Coming from a family with a history of cholesterol and heart problems, I was always on the brink of a life of cholesterol meds. In a little over 1 month of changing my habits and workout ethics, my cholesterol was drastically changed for the better. Without Nick and Leah and the education on this lifestyle; who knows what my future would have held.

This is only a small part of the story. The thing that I am happiest about is the people around me who have also adjusted their lifestyles and seen the same results. Elaine and I used to be the weirdos who ate funny and did Burpees and other weird exercises.. Now we are weirdos among a group of weirdos and family members who have adopted a similar change. The groundwork for my transition was formed by Nick and his team and I will forever be indebted to them for their encouragement and education. The one thing I regret about all of this is not having the time to educate my father on this lifestyle before he passed away.

Just for reference I am now ~ 165 lbs, can run around a 7.5 minute mile... and plan to stay that way as long as possible. I'll never throw weight around like most of the other guys at the gym; but I am doing pretty well approaching 35 years old. Thanks again for everything you guys have done to help change my life, and indirectly the lives of others hundreds of miles away [my brother and his family].. -Tim

Gym Jones, Trainer of “300” Cast“ In December of 2003 I attended an Instructor Certification course at CrossFit headquarters to learn more about what I had been dabbling with during the previous six months. I went there fit, secretly confident but I was destroyed by each and every fitness challenge presented.
